The next day, while at Sunday school, Tom uses the money given to him by the boo yes who washed the fence to buy tickets that go towards a bible, which he bought. A little later in t he novel, Becky finds out that Tom was previously “engaged” to another girl, and she stops tall king to him. Shortly after, back at school, Tom meets Houck Finn, a local boy plagued by a d run father and no mother. Houck and Tom go to the graveyard together at night, and witness the murder of DRP. Robinson.
The next day, the news of the murder gets out, and everybody bell eves that Muff Potter is the murderer, when in reality he is innocent. Injury Joe, the killer, gets off free. When Tom and Houck hear this, they are horrified. Tom begins to talk about the murk deer in his sleep, and sort of freak out. Tom begins to bring Muff Potter gifts in jail as often as he ca Soon, Tom falls into a deep depression after Injury Joe is let free, and Becky co entities to not speak to him. Tom then meets Joe Harper, another young boy like Torn.
Tom , Houck, and Joe decide to run off to an island together. While at the island, the three see a fear y off in the distance Rhubarb 2 in the river full of people looking for the bodies of the three missing boys, as t hey were assumed to be dead. Tom sneaks home to hear more of what the fuss is about, and is h photo hear the fact that his family was praising his life. Tom returns back to the island the next d ay, and the boys create a plan to return back home during their funerals. Once they return, the eye are treated as heroes.
Later at school, Tom sees Becky reading the teachers special anatomy book, and when she sees Tom, she closes it as fast as she can, ripping a page in the process. Once the teacher found out, Tom lied and said it was him, in order to save Becky from punish .NET. Becky and Tom regain their special friendship. School soon ended and Muff Potter’s murder trial began. On the last day oft he trial, the guilt of Tom not saying anything about what he saw grows so immense that h e talks. Once he testifies to the court, Injury Joe flees the courtroom and escapes.
Later, Tom a ND Houck decide to kick for some treasure. One night they went to search inside a haunted house e, which just so happens to be Injury Joey’s hideout. When the two see him, they narrowly sees pee. Later, Becky and Tom go on a picnic, and go inside a cave. They get lost in the cave, and so on see what they think is a rescuer, but its Injury Joe. Tom escapes, but he goes back to look for Becky. The door to the cave has been sealed, so Tom cannot get in. Tom tells the community t hat Injury Joe was in the cave, and soon people gather at the cave, and find Injury Joe dead next t o the door. Tom
