PERSONAL GOALS AMINA BHAIDANI HCS/301 SEPTEMBER 14,2011 DR HAROLD VAN ALSTYNE PERSONAL GOALS Goal – The terminal point of race. The end toward which effort is directed. AIM. The score resulting from such an act (Webster 1972 ). Personal – Of related to. Belonging to a person ,private , directed to a single person . (Webster 1972 ) therefore personal goal to my understanding is aim of a person himself or herself. Aim of the person. My personal goal I would like to divide into different categories First professional goals. My goals for my family. My Retirement goals.
My short term goal is to complete BSN with University of Phoenix. After BSN I would like to go for either MSN or master’s in education or go for NP as I go further in my BSN program I will decide. That’s for sure that I will not stop here I would continue studding. I would like to be out from the herd mentality. As our professor stated in the class “going to school will remove you form herd mentality, once you finish your bachelors you will be in the 1/3 rd. of the country’s population who have achieved their degrees, who had alleviated themselves. I would like to be placed in that section very soon.
I would like to do master’s so that I can be a professor at a university or school of nursing. Ultimately my goal is to be a teacher or be a clinician where I could be my own boss. I would like more flexibility. My reasons for going to school I would like to continue to grow I want to have the ability to think critically, have a scientific approach In my profession so that I could set an example to my children that education is a lifelong process and it’s never too late to per sue your carrier its possible only if you can put your mind and energy to it.
Getting a degree will give sense of pride. Once I advance myself in this profession hopefully it will open door for me in future to generate more income for my family and have a better quality of life. What will be my measures to accomplish my goals in others words how will I be motivated to continue being in the school. COMMITMENT I have to commit myself towards achieving my goals be it sacrificing my TV time or shopping time. UTILIZING RESOURCES I have to progress towards my goals during the journey if I can get assistance from my friends family members I will gladly accept their help.
STAY FOCUSED I have to stay focused to my goal there will be lots of problems but I am ready for the challenge. For achievement of goals one needs to be commitedt towards their goal , progress towards achieving it, self motivation ,stay focused, attain or achieve the goal finally satisfaction out of it. I want to walk with pride prove to myself I could do it. INTERVENTIONS towards achieving my goals. The following are the essential values to be successful or in other words these values are essential in successfully accomplishing my future goals. ) Time management 2)Organization 3)Understanding importance of delayed gratification 4)Flexibility 5)Positive attitude. TIME MANAGEMENT—I have to make a schedule, make time table. Sit with family and work out a plan so that I have time for my homework I can assist my children with their homework and also have some time to take care of my other obligations as a wife like cook clean take care of my house. All that is possible if I organize my time wisely. The interventions that can help manage time LEARN TO SAY NO. Where there are possibilities say no if its too much.
I have to really learn that . Second thing DETERMINE WHATS REALLY URGENT. Therefore time management and ORGANIZATION goes hand in hand. UNDERSTANDING IMPORTANCE OF DELAYED GRATIFICATION—like the saying says it all PATIENCE IS A VERTUE Anonyms. Another attitude I should have is sacrifice if I keep in mind its going to pay it all in the end be better job oppurtunities or carrier advancement its going to help me in future . FLEXIBILITY I have to be very flexible and be available for my team since most my school work is going to done with my learning team charter.
That is only going to be possible if I utilize my time wisely that time management and organize myself. POSITIVE ATTITTUDE –I could either see the glass is half full or half empty. If I have an attitude the glass is half full I think I will be successful in my career. I could say one class is done and I learnt about team communications policies and I have achieved a portion of my goal. I am approaching closer towards my goal that will give me sense of satisfaction. I will see my self getting closer and closer to my goal.
My personal goal for my family I would like to spend sometime with my children my goals for my family is to keep them healthy physical and emotionally. I would like my husband and my children to be physically active. “Adult should participate in at least 30minutes,and children at least 60 minutes of moderate exercise (such as brisk walking )for five or more days each week. ”(http ://www. everybodywalk. org). There are numerous benefits of walking and exercising. Therefore I will make it a point that all of us get at least half hour walk or some kind of exercise daily. There’s nothing more important than sharing family time together, so make the most of every moment spent with those most special to you. Provide memorable family meals by having kids help with everything from choosing the menu to cooking to cleaning up . Use that time together to catch up on everyone’s day or tell stories that have been passed down for generations. ”(Reader’s Digest September 2011). My personal goal for retirement “the consensus is that retirement is not a single event but rather a process that older individuals go through over period of years.
However, this process is by no means uniform in that no two individuals are likely to experience retirement exactly. ”(psychological perspective on the changing nature of retirement journal article by Shultz, Kenneth. April 2011vol 66 pp170-179). It’s always better to have a goal for an individual to have a retirement goals to look forward to while there is nothing to do. I Personally think a person with a retirement plan will have a better retired life than a person without one . would like to retire at the age of 65 be volunteer in a school at a library. I would like to go on a road trip from east coast to west coast. Serve the community as much as I can , and if am need money and if stocks are not back up I just might have to continue working. In conclusion I would like to summarize my paper by saying that by writing this paper I learnt that there is so much I have to work on to achieve my goal utilizing my resources understanding my values and work on getting closer to achieving my goals.
By doing this paper I have learnt importance of time management, organization and positive attitude are the key ingredients to be successful in life by achieving my goals. REFERENCES (n. d. ).
