For this assessment you are required to draw upon your learning as recorded in your Learning Log and submit 9 items that document your professional learning. You will submit 2 items in Week 3 and 7 items in Week 10 (total of 9 items). One of your submissions in Week 3 will be marked and feedback provided to you to enhance your later submissions, and this will contribute to 10% of the 50% allocated to Assessment 1. You will have some choice in what you submit as your 9 items, however there must be one item derived from the learning activities of each of Weeks 1 to 9 of this unit.

That is, you will not submit an ‘item’ for every learning activity in a particular week, but instead make choices about how best to document your learning in a particular week and which activities have contributed to that learning in an integrated way that includes references. Thus, each item you submit must be derived from your learning from more than one of the specific learning activities for that week, and each item must include in an integrated way your learning from assigned readings for that week.

Also, it is important for you to note that all the activities for a week, along with your related learning journal entries, will be used as you complete Assessment 2 for this unit. The 9 items must address each of the four unit learning outcomes at least twice. To ensure you achieve this criterion, each submission must include the Assessment 1 Summary Sheet that is on the final page of the Assessment 1 Professional Learning Reports that you will submit in Weeks 3 and 10. Unit Learning Outcomes 1. Identify, describe and apply effective teaching strategies for teaching mathematics. . Analyse and critique strategies and resources for teaching mathematics in primary classrooms. 3. Demonstrate knowledge of local curriculum documents connected to teaching mathematics. 4. Show personal knowledge of mathematics suitable to a teacher of primary aged children. How you will prepare and submit the items for this assessment The 9 items must be prepared and submitted as Word documents using the Assessment 1 Professional Learning Report form that will be supplied to you for each of the submissions.

It must be prepared according to the guidelines on the form: maximum of 1 page, Times 12 point font, single line spacing (with references (using correct APA style) allowed to be listed on a separate page if need be). One of the two items submitted in Week 3 will be selected at random by your tutor, marked and feedback provided (10%). Four of the 7 items submitted in Week 10 will be selected at random by your tutor for marking (40%). Your items will be submitted via a drop box on Blackboard. Specifics Section 2

For each learning (and you need to address three or four), address the following questions in a paragraph: •What did I learn? •Which Learning Outcome did it address? •Which activities enabled me to learn this? Section 3 For each learning outlined in Section 2, address the following questions in a paragraph: •How will I use the learning? •Why will the learning help in my development as an effective primary mathematics teacher? •What references support my claims to the question above? Demonstration of higher level thinking skills in your discussions is essential.
