Say No To GMO
In simple terms, scientists change the structure of an organism (often DNA ) to add “benefits. ” The foods that were once natural, are no longer considered natural. As genetic engineering evolves, more and more products are being affected by this process. Chemicals are getting put into our systems and sometimes we don’t even know it what its doing or how it got there. Frankly, most people don’t even know WHAT they’re putting into their bodies. So why is it that health food stores are so adamant on promoting foods that clearly state “NO SMOG” erectly on the label?
Do they know something we don’t? It’s time SMOG get recognized for the harm they’re doing to humans and the planet that we live on. SMOG are not safe for our bodies, not safe for our environment , and will affect the economy in the long run. SMOG can bring unwanted risks to a humans health. In my house, organic is the way to go. My dad is a constant lecture and is always reminding us to keep it as natural and alive as humanly possible. Keeping your intake natural is the only way to be sure your body is protected from potential risks.
Unfortunately the FDA does not insure public safety as drastically as they should. SMOG are allowed in the U. S. Although SMOG are banned in many countries, the United States uses of genetic engineering just continues to rise and it is becoming very common to find SMOG in your everyday foods. Corn products are everywhere. From cereal, to chips and pastries, corn is almost hard not to find. Corn products are taking over. “Calories are calories, and corn is the cheapest, most convenient source of calories on the market. “(POLLEN) Over 85% of corn grown in the U.
S is genetically modified. Which means it is “genetically engineered to be herbicide resistant and to produce its own insecticide” (http://www. Incorporate. Org). An environmental issue with SMOG is their harm to animals. SMOG have been tested on different types of animals, for example, rats, cows, and pigs. These animals were given genetically modified corn. The rats developed severe swelling and / or organ complications, while some of the cows and pigs became sterile. If these were proven to affect animals, why on earth would people think i?s ape for humans to intake?
Another plant that is commonly genetically modified is soy. Over 90% of the soy beans produced in the U. S have been altered. Eating too much soy can increase your chances of developing breast cancer. (Dry. Marcela) The effects of soy aren’t instant, but can develop during time. Again, GM soy was tested to animals and the results were horrifying. Even if there are positives to SMOG, the negatives are too hard to ignore. The proof is right in front of us. The choice is clear. Genetically modified plants are also a detriment to the environment.
One of SMOG main problems with the environment is that they permanently contaminate. “Smog cross pollinate and their seeds can travel. It is impossible to fully clean up our contaminated gene pool. ” (responsibletechnologies. Org) Animals such as bees , butterflies and birds, pick up these chemicals and disperse to the environment. In order to get a genetically modified crop, DNA must be altered to achieve some sort of goal (usually being insect resistant, virus resistant, or a longer life for the product).
Toxins that are being sprayed onto plants in order to achieve this “quality’, go directly into our air source and through soil, which goes into the irrigation systems and of course, into our water. So with SMOG, nothing and no one is safe. Along with not being safe for humans and not being safe to the environment , SMOG would have a negative impact on the economy. Since the reproduction of plants is a natural process, it is a rather challenging task to invent a method that would only confer the benefits of genetically modified organisms to the buyer of the product. ” (estimates. Munch. Du) It calls for argue food distributors , and would put smaller, family farms out of business and into bankruptcy. That means many people would be out of a job. And the people who pick food for a living? They would be looking for jobs else where as well. It almost be impossible for every farmer let go to find another reliable, and stable career. This doesn’t seem fair that GUM farmers want to take over. Organ nice and natural is the only way to ensure safety for our bodies and environment. If people want to ignore the facts and continue the cheap way and easy way of distributing food, then that’s they’re right.
But, people who truly know the difference will almost always choose organic. Our bodies are live and natural. “You are what you eat” (Pollen 960). Why put artificial into natural? Makes no sense. Our bodies love natural. Organic fights off diseases, they carry more nutrients than SMOG, and not only do they look fresher, they taste fresher. You may not taste the difference but your body sure knows the difference. Everyone knows organic is good and picking natural is always better. With scientists knowledge today, the statement stays accurate.
