Role of Youth in Oil Conservation

Introduction In words of James” Youth is the joy, the little bird that has broken out of the eggs and is eagerly waiting to spread out its wings in the open sky of freedom and hope. ” Power of Youth Youth is the spring of Life. It is the age of discovery and dreams. India is of largest youth population in the world today. The entire world is eyeing India as a source of technical manpower. They are looking at our youth as a source of talents at low costs for their future super profits.

If Indian youth make up their mind and work in close unity with working class people, they can hold the political power in their hands. Indian youth has the power to make our country from developing nation to a developed nation. Is it a dream? No, their dreams take them to stars and galaxies to the far corners of the unknown and some of them like our own Kalpana Chawla pursue their dream, till they realize it and die for it in process. hopes of youth. The youth hopes for a world free of poverty, unemployment, inequality and exploitation of man by man.

A world free of discrimination on the grounds of race, colour, language and gender. A world full of creative challenges and opportunities to conquer them. But let us convert these hopes in reality. Young people can demonstrate a serious commitment to reducing oil consumption through their choices as they become old enough to drive. Instead of regarding the acquisition of a driver’s license as a rite of passage to be followed by acquisition of a vehicle of one’s choice to be driven whenever possible, young people could set an example for others by thinking about finding alternative methods of transportation.

Bicycles or walking use no oil. Mass transit or car pooling would greatly reduce the amount of oil being used as fewer vehicles were on the road. More efficient vehicles or vehicles that use alternative sources of energy would also reduce the dependence on oil. If they developed these attitudes and habits at a young age, today’s young people would carry that lifestyle with them into the future and would pass it on to coming generations.

Our next generation is the one which will have to deal with either the loss of oil as a resource (assuming oil does not self-replenish) or of a world where use of fossil fuels is becoming more and more harmful. We must educate about alternative fuels; not just solar and wind — those are too inefficient to be more than a feel-good solution at the moment — but safe nuclear fusion utilizing Thorium. Breakthroughs in engine design and efficient motors can reduce gasoline usage significantly.

Electric cars are still a long way from a workable solution — they never mention where the electricity comes from: oil and coal power plants — but they can be made better and better. Solutions need to come from the best thinkers in our working youth, and we can encourage this sort of beneficial, problem-solution oriented thinking with thorough, fact-checked education. Role of Youth: The role of youth is of most importance in today’s time. It has underplayed itself in field of politics. It should become aspiring entrepreneur rather than mere workers.

It can play a vital role in elimination of terrorism. Young participation is important because youth are the country’s power. Youth recognize problems and can solve them. Youth are strong forces in social movements. They educate children about their rights. They help other young people attain a higher level of Intellectual ability and to become qualified adults. Problems Unfortunately no one is bothered to dream any s vision. Martin Luther has said, “I have a Dream” and the dream come largely true. If he had not thought of that dream he would have accomplished nothing in his life.

Another problem is its indifferent attitude towards things, situation and politics . The new cool formula of “let the things be “is proving fatal to India’s development . Lack of unity and spirit is the major setback. Its time the youth, the students have to realize their power, their role, their duties and their responsibility and stand up for their rights. Now its time that instead of brain drain we should act like magnets and attract world to India. The following specific activities are taken up from time to time. •Multi Media Mass Awareness Campaign Effective and result-oriented conservation methods adopted by the upstream undertakings in the oil sector like reduction of gas flaring by re-injection of gas to underground reservoir, installation of waste heat recovery systems, utilization of non-conventional energy sources and close monitoring of all conservation efforts by ONGC. •Energy audits, efficiency upgradation of equipment and appliances; substitution of diesel with Natural Gas, deployment of solar-powered illumination panel, battery operated vehicles, Bio-gas etc. Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is used as a fuel in transport sector in many countries. Its advantage is being safe and clean burning fuel, besides being environment friendly fuel. •Blending ethanol (5%) / methanol (3%) with Petrol for using in vehicles without any modification of engine. Conclusion India can become a developed nation only if everyone contributes to the best of his or her capacity and ability. Youth is wholly experimental and with the full utilization of the talents of the Youth, India will become a complete Nation.

Let us hope for the same. Slogans on Oil Conservation •Today’s oil wastage is tomorrow’s oil shortage save earth by saving oil •Oil oil oil can u save oil ……… if not u r poor ………… more poor……… because oil is precious •Teil bachao desh bachao •The Life of Trees are in Our Hands and Our Life in Theirs” •Oil saved…………. is energy gained!! •Youth is like a fire – It crept forward. A Spark at first – Growing into a flame – The brightening into a Blaze’.
