Illegal Immigration Should Be Allowed

Illegal Immigration Should Be Allowed Illegal immigration is the immigration of someone from his or her home country to another country without becoming a legal citizen. Illegal immigrants have many different names; illegal aliens, undocumented workers, and unauthorized citizens are just a few names they are called. Whether undocumented workers should stay in the country or leave has been debated in the United States for a long time. In the year 2006, there was an estimated 11. to 12 million undocumented immigrants living in the U. S (“FAIR”). Illegal immigrants are willing to do any kind of work to feed their families and to pay for the things they need and want in life. Undocumented workers come from third world countries where health care is not as advanced there as it is in the United States. The United States was also founded by immigrants invading the American Indians’ land. Illegal immigrants should have the right to live in the Unites States and have equal rights as other citizens.

One reason illegal immigrants should be allowed to live in the United States is because the illegal aliens are willing to work jobs that most Americans think that they are too good for. Some Americans think that because they are legal citizens that have graduated from a decent high school and college and they do not want to work as janitors for the rest of their lives. Illegal immigrants are the nation’s plumbers and landscapers.

If a citizen goes to a construction site in the middles of a city, he or she is more likely to see Hispanics working, not fellow Americans. In the years 2005 to 2006, forty-one percent of undocumented workers in New Orleans did general construction (Immigration). The reason illegal immigrants work those kinds of jobs is because they need to provide for their families no matter what the job or the horrible conditions they have to suffer through. A few illegal immigrants come to the United States because they need health care.

Most third world countries do not have adequate hospitals. Their hospitals lack the medicine and equipments that some families may need because of sick children or other relatives. “Simply being in the United States illegally is not a sufficient reason to be denied needed health care,” says James Dwyer (Illegal). Health care should not be for the legal citizens of the country. Being denied health care because someone is an unauthorized citizen should be illegal because it is unethical. America was founded by immigrants.

When the Europeans came over from their home countries to North America, there were already people living here. Native Americans saw these immigrants as people intruding on their land. After a number of major and minor conflicts between the British, French, Spanish, and Indians, the British claimed most of the land and decided to make all the land they had into the United States. Because our country was founded by immigrants, illegal immigrants that come from Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean, and other various places throughout the world should be allowed to live in the U. S.

Passing laws that prohibit unauthorized citizens from living in the country is saying that Americans do not approve of illegal immigration even though that is how the country was made. A more sensible thing to do would be to look at how the U. S was made and the immigrants that helped so much to me the country what it is today. James Maddison, fourth president of the United States, said, “America was indebted to immigration for her settlement and prosperity. That part of America which had encouraged them most had advanced most rapidly in population, agriculture, and the arts.

Illegal immigrants in the United States are looked down upon and harassed every day because most citizens think that they should not be allowed to live in this country. Because they are willing to work jobs no one else wants and in need of a sanitary environment, they should be able to live here freely. The United States was also founded by immigrants, and for the country to say that aliens are not welcome here is making the country look hypocritical. The moral thing to do is to give illegal immigrants more freedoms than they already have or make the naturalization process easier.
