Journal

In the second study there were 188 ten-year-old children recruited from local elementary’ schools. They all had parental consent. These ten year olds were selected because this age group could distinguish between belief and memory. Instruments: The instruments used in both studies were narratives about a trip to a theme park. The true narrative was for the parents to provide information about a trip to a theme park that their children truly experienced. They were asked to name the park, who was them and how they traveled to the park.

Procedure: In two studies, adults and children were received false and true narratives. They were interviewed individually on two occasions. Before the interviews the participants were informed that the study focused on memories from about six years old. During the interviews the participants were asked to report everything they could recollect about each event. When no memory was recalled they were told that “Many people can’t recall certain events because they haven’t thought about them for such a long time. Please focus and try again. If this didn’t work then the context was restated and imagery techniques were used. If they still couldn’t recall the event then the next event was presented. After each narrative the participants were asked whether they had a belief or memory of the event. After both events were presented the participants were asked to think about the events daily until the next interview. They were also told to not talk about the study with anyone else. During the second interview the participants were told that one of the events ere fictitious and asked them which they thought it was.

After the event was revealed they were asked whether they remembered the event happening. Rest Its: In the both studies nearly all of the true memories were recalled. For the false memories eight events were judged to have changed from no memory to memory whereas four events were judged to have changed from memory to no memory. Within the second study, be;en interviews, seven participants increased from no memory to having a memory and 36 shifted from memory to no memory.

Discussion/Conclusion: These studies showed that nonbeliever memories for childhood events can be drawn out experimentally. These studies showed that debriefing instructions in false memory studies are likely to lead to nonbeliever memories for some people. Your Comments: think these two studies were reasonable. I do think the age range of children should be up to 17 years old instead often. The fact that adults with no knowledge on false memories were participants was a good thing because they didn’t overthrow the narrative.
