Why Accountability in the Army Is Important!
Why Accountability is Important Accountability is very important in the Army. Accountability is taking responsibility for your actions and your items. By meaning what you say, saying what you mean, and doing what you say, when you say you will do it. By keeping track of all my items and equipment I can always be ready for anything that is needed of me by my country, my superiors, or other servicemen. Being accountable means being dependable. Where my country, my superiors and fellow servicemen can count on me in any situation. o know I will be there to do what is necessary. Taking responsibility for your own actions and equipment is what keeps things running smoothly. And keeps things from turning into utter chaos. Being in formation on time everyday is an prime example of accountability. Formation is where the Army takes accountability of everyone and to get important information out that needs to be dealt with. Without accountability there is no knowing of where everyone is or whats going on. Knowing where your equipment and personal effects are at all times is very important also.
By not putting a lock on my wall locker, I was not talking responsibility for my own items, and not doing what I was told to do by my superiors. I was not being responsible. Keeping my items locked and secured is very important now and in the future. As with keeping all sensitive items secured and accounted for later on. Keeping my wall locker locked, keeps accountability of all my items and teaches me to always maintain my equipment, my arms, and myself. Many things could have happened by me failing to adhere to my responsibilities.
My wall locker could have been vandalized, or items of mine could have been stolen. And if it was sensitive information that was seen or taken, I could have jeopardized people lives or the outcome of our country. If my items were taken, Then I would not have the proper items and materials to be properly trained to the standards of a American Soldier. Which would result in me not being the best I can be for my country, and the Army not having a properly trained soldier! Not being properly trained can result in many lives and poorly ran missions.
I am told by my superiors to put a lock on my wall locker for a reason, and make sure it is locked, at all times. This is for me to learn to maintain all my equipment and items. And always abiding by the LDRSHIP acronym (Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Self-less service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage) at all times will keep me accountable and responsible and make me a better soldier. So I can always be the soldier that my fellow servicemen would want to fight beside in any time of crisis. This acronym should be the backbone of any American Soldier.
L-Loyalty is my commitment I will always have for my country, other service members and my superiors. loyalty is important because if I did not care for my country I would have no motivation to serve and protect my fellow servicemen and the citizens of my country. Loyalty also means that I will not betray my country, or fellow service members in any way and I will always stay true to my country. Being a person that other people can count on is being Loyal. D- Duty is what is required of me by my superiors and my country. I do what needs to be done, and what I am told to do, no matter what.
I will always obey my superiors and carry out the Duty that is required of me as a American Soldier. R- Respect is treating other people the way they want to be treated. By following what you learned in kindergarten. To follow the Golden Rule. Showing respect to my superiors as they have had the training and have the knowledge to successfully lead me in any situation, in return I owe them respect. Respect for my country and its citizens. Respect for myself. S- Self-Less Service is putting other people and my country’s needs in front of my own needs and wants, at all times.
By not being selfish. By doing what needs to be done to protect , at all costs. H- Honor is what needs to be visible from us at all times. We show our honor at ceremonies and by wearing our uniforms proudly. By carrying ourselves everyday like a United States Army Soldier, with dignity and pride. By holding our heads up high. Living up to all the Army Values. I-Integrity is doing what is right legally and morally at all times. To always do what is right even when no one is looking, shows great integrity. To always have morales and values to follow in your life.
P-Personal Courage is having the courage to face any fear, any danger and any obstacle , both physically emotionally, and morally at any time. To stand up to any enemy, or obstacle for whats in the best interest of my country , citezens and fellow servicemen. To always Protect and serve my country and citizens. It is very vital and important for every American soldier to live and breath the Army Values everyday. I can and will be the best soldier by following these values, following orders and taking accountability for all my actions nd equipment. And by following the commands given to me by my superiors, will always be a vital key to a successful mission. If I follow the LDRSHIP values everyday I will not make the same mistakes again, and become a better American Soldier. Every time I close my locker, I will make sure that my lock is on and locked. And double check it again. I will never leave my wall locker unlocked or unsupervised again. I will not be irresponsible again. I will follow orders. I will be accountable. Always.
