This occurred during an age when everything was achievable, or at least people thought so. The American Dream is an ideal that has been present since the beginning of American literature. Some people might consider the American Dream to be a search for wealth, success, and generally a high position in society, while thers focus on having a family or love rather than the need for materials.

All Of these beliefs can be credited to the idea of the American Dream. The assumption that the American Dream can be achieved by anyone as along as they work hard turns out to be nothing more than a lie. The original pursuit for freedom has now evolved throughout the years to attain a big house, a fancy car, and a worry free life. The Great Gatsby represents the materialistic aspect when it comes to the American Dream.
