Research paper on Creative vs Logical Thinking

Some people want to explore the world and as the Doctor from the famous show, Doctor Who, would say, “There’s something that doesn’t make sense. Let’s go and poke it with a stick. ” (Nonfat) However, others like to figure out the way the world they know works. They try and work out the solutions and the wows and whys. Creative thinking and logical thinking both have their disadvantages, but bayou work to better both of them you could be even smarter and have a higher chance at success. Creative thinking is the thinking when we are coming up with new ideas.

This is for example: writing an essay, painting, writing music, inventing a new type of processor for a computer, etc. It is also called inductive thinking. This is when you two things share common similarities, so then if a third thing is similar to one of them, then it is equivalent to them. This isn’t always true, but is the basic idea. It is also the thinking when you are coming up with are planning for something. There are two types of creativity. Thinking outside of the normal standards to create completely new ideas. (Strong) Creative thinking is also used for solving more ell life type problems. It is thinking of all the possible ways to solve the problem. (Wanderer) In summary, creativity is the process of thinking of new ideas. Creative thinking has many advantages. It is a way to try and come up with new ideas. By thinking creative you can come up with new things like the phone. You think to create. It also is a means to solve real life problems in ways that people don’t normally solve them.

For example finding a way to solve traffic stalls through new type of stop sign. The disadvantages of creative thinking is that it is not as good of a problem solving technique as social thinking. When you think creatively you try to find a new way to solve it. Also if you are a more creative thinker, you focus on new ideas rather than the standard ideas. One tries to explore new possibilities. In the business world, this can be helpful, but it can also be harmful and a waste; they may need to spend their money optimizing their current design rather than finding a new way to do it.

Logical thinking on the other hand is a straight forward thinking style. It is more analyzing. “Logical problem solving is a process of searching through the known data and/or adding information to existing data. ” (Strong) Logical thinking takes place in the left side of the brain, on the same side as analytical thinking and rational thought. (Gogh) This is basically what logical thinking is; the use of deductive arguments and reasoning to interpret the world. A deductive argument is an argument such that if the first part is true, so is the second.

For example if and 8=C, then A=C is true by the reasoning. (Staff) These arguments can be sound, when it is valid and the conclusion is true, or not sound. Logical thinking works on problems that are structured like in math or puzzles. (Wanderer) It is a set of radical thinking. Some of the advantages of logical thinking, are that it is a problem-solving tactic. We use this to help solve predicaments like can we eat this food, what would be the best way to save food so I can live, or how can properly save my money so can survive.

Logical thinking usually results in detailed thinking. In business, it is coming up with the specifics on how to do something. For example, coming up with an estimate on how much a product will sell based on demand. It is also used to in the making and designing of a product for thinking how it will be used and how to better it. It is all about advancing and making the available data better. However, logical thinking is not perfect. There are some flaws in it. It is all about noticing patterns and designing ways to use those patterns.

So what if there isn’t any data to begin with? Then logical thinking becomes much more difficult, and less common. If you are just starting a traffic light at an intersection, guessing the time ITIL take for the cars to all pass would work but it wouldn’t work the best. You should first collect data, and then you can analyze the data and come up with the best pattern to set the lights to. It also is not meant for creating new ideas. That is one example of how creative thinking is better than logical. Thinking of new ideas. Creative thinking is more of thinking outside of the box.

Logical just improves what you have. This means if you have creative thinkers on a business team, they will be the people that you will expect the most ideas from. They will help design the advertisement. Or design catchy jingles to get the product to sell. Or possible new products that are needed or could be sold. Most creative thinkers think of the full picture instead of just the data, so impaired to logical thinkers, who may get lost in data, they may be more successful in controlling the project. However, logical thinking has advantages over creative thinking too.

It will be used for improving the current product, or for counting profit. “In the world of organizations and business, the logical thinkers who tend to concentrate on data and details often dominate. ” (Gogh) This means that they are often the most common people at business jobs. However, this could also be due to the self-selection effect, where the people only want to select people who think like them to improve the company. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. But both can actually be learned. You can be taught to learn both.

If you work hard you can learn to think more creatively. Not just logically. You can learn to express more logical thinking. This is what separates most people. They are usually either creative and be either English people art people, or they could be more logical and be either a math person or programmer. Choosing which one is better is like trying to choose which side of a coin is better. They both have perks and advantages. Creative thinking is good for starting new ideas. While, logical thinking is good for connecting the ideas and finding patterns.

Creative could also be good for sharing ideas or communicating them to people. Logical could be useful for improving products. Overall if you have a team of people, you want to have both types of thinking on it. This would allow you to look at both sides of a part and see the whole picture. This would greatly benefit the product. However, logical thinkers dominate most current businesses. Usually the businesses that have a more balance of creative and logical thinkers end up on top of the other businesses. In marry, creative thinking is the thinking of new ideas.
