One of the most reported on media nowadays is about bullying.. It can come from a single person or a group. Bullying in schools should be discouraged since it greatly affects performance of the students and teachers by disrupting the morale. Bullying does not necessarily happen among the student community but it can also happen to the members of the teaching and staff. It is brought about by many different factors ranging from a feeling of contempt towards a certain person due to their physical attributes, color of their skin, religion, financial status or social class.

Bullying in schools can to mom extent be seen as a discrimination of some kind depending on how an individual perceives things. Bullying can be delivered verbally or in some extreme cases physically where the victim suffers actual bodily harm. Unfortunately, bullying is an unavoidable part of life for children, but what is the best way to deal with bullying so that both the bully and the victim can grow from the experience and become better people? Before this question can be answered, it is important to explore every aspect involved with bullying.

Specifically, we need to look at everything that bullies do, the way it effects both the victim and the bully, and exactly how much bullying currently occurs in schools. Bullying is very frequent and since the beginning of time it has plagued schools all over the world. It is a major issue in today’s world and is well-worthy of discussion. Most of the time when people think of bullying going on in schools, one generic picture comes to mind; a big, scary boy coming along to a younger, punier child and saying, “Give me your lunch or money! ” then the bully proceeds to turn the victim upside down to empty his pockets for lunch money.

However, bullying is not always that simple, and here does not necessarily need to be physical violence involved in order for something to be considered bullying. II. Background of the Study This assignment taught me a lot about how the safety of students at school really has a strong affect on how we will learn. When students feel safe at school, they have a positive learning environment that allows them to focus wholly on their academics, in turn, producing better grades. When students are bullying or being bullied in school, their attention slips away from their studies and their academic achievement is directly affected.

In order to rate a positive learning environment for all of all the students, teachers and all other faculty members must play an active role in the prevention of bullying, and also the healing process after a bullying situation has been resolved, because these things mostly happen at school where mostly students are involve in this kind of acts. Ill. Significance of the Study This Study is particularly beneficial mostly by all students who are the ones involve in this kind of acts; they will learn the bad sides about being a bully and its effects to the one they bully.

For teachers so that they will know if here students are being bully or being the bully and for the parents so that they will be aware of this kind of problems that might be there kids is experiencing it without their knowing. IV. Body of the Research There are many kinds of bullying according to the way how it did. 1. Physical bullying includes any physical contact that would hurt or injure a person like hitting, kicking, punching, etc. Taking something that belongs to someone else and destroying it would also be considered a type of physical bullying.

For example, if someone was walking down the street and someone came up to hem and shoved them to the ground that would be physical bullying. In elementary and middle schools, 30. 5% of all bullying is physical. 2. Verbal bullying is name-calling, making offensive remarks, or joking about a person’s religion, gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or the way they look. For example, if there was a group of kids who made fun of another kid because he couldn’t run as fast as everyone else, it would be an example of verbal bullying. 46. 5% of all bullying in schools is the verbal type.

Verbal aggression is when a bully teases someone. It can also include a bully making verbal wreaths of violence or aggression against someone’s personal property. 3. Indirect bullying includes spreading rumors or stories about someone, telling others about something that was told to you in private, and excluding others from groups. An example would be if you started a rumor that a boy in your class likes playing with dolls, and if the reason that you made up the story was because you thought it was funny. This would be indirect bullying. Indirect bullying accounts for 18. % of all bullying. 4. Social alienation is when a bully excludes someone from a group on purpose. It also includes a bully breading rumors, and also making fun of someone by pointing out their differences. 5. Intimidation is when a bully threatens someone else and frightens that person enough to make him or her do what the bully wants, and Lastly the most common bullying happening nowadays is the Cyber bullying, it is done by sending messages, pictures, or information using electronic media, computers (email & instant messages), or cell phones (text messaging & biochemical).

For instance, if you sent a picture of a snake in an email to a person because you know that they are afraid of snakes that would e an example Of cyber bullying. According to a survey done in 2003 only 4% of bullying is listed as “other types” and this would include cyber bullying. Even though this number seems small, the growth of this type of bullying is going up fast because of the spread of technology around the world. There are reasons or causes why this acts happening. Some of these are, 1 .

Bullies have a strong need to be in control and exert their dominance over others; Children who bully others are often driven by the desire for power. They can be impulsive, hot-headed, and dominant, and they enjoy being able to bud others. They are experiencing regular lessons in how effective it can be to use their power aggressively to control and distress others. 2. Bullies are rewarded for their bullying behaviors, it may seem counter-intuitive, but the fact is that children often receive positive reinforcement when they bully others, which only makes them continue their behavior.

The rewards could be material, such as when a bully forces his victim to give up lunch money. But the rewards could also be less tangible. Bullies often enjoy status and prestige because others fear them. They also command a lot of attention for heir behavior. One recent large-scale study found that children who bullied others did so because they wanted to increase their popularity. To avoid losing social status, they deliberately selected victims who were unpopular. 3.

Bullies lack empathy, and may even get pleasure out of other people’s pain, Studies show that bullies score low on tests of empathic reactivity, and have also found that bullies can be more likely to develop anti-social personality disorder. This is a condition that causes people to ignore the rights and feelings of those around them. One study scanned the brains of young people who had exhibited bullying behaviors in the past, while they were watching videos that showed people experiencing pain. The researchers noticed a great deal of activity in the areas of the brain devoted to reward and pleasure.

This suggests that it’s not just a lack of empathy that’s the problem. Some bullies may actually derive pleasure out of seeing other people’s pain. 4. Bullies lack the ability to self-regulate emotions, the same researchers who conducted the brain scan study made another surprising discovery: the parts of the bullies’ brains that allow them to self-regulate their emotions were inactive. This suggests that bullies simply don’t have a way to control their anger and frustration, which may result in severe over reactions to small provocations. 5.

Bullies are heavily influenced by their family backgrounds, it’s impossible to predict who will become a bully and who won’t, but researchers have found some patterns in the types of families bullies have. Bullies tend to come from families that are characterized as having little warmth or affection. These families also report trouble sharing their feelings and usually rate themselves as feeling less close to each other. Parent of bullies also tend to use inconsistent discipline and little monitoring of where their children are throughout the day.

Sometimes parents of bullies have very punitive and rigid discipline styles, with physical punishment being very common. Bullies also report less feelings of closeness to their siblings. Bullying has large effects on either victims or perpetrator both in term of health, wealth and relationship. Victims of bullying will have low self-esteem and easily depressed that eventually leads to suicide attempt in long period of time. Besides, they will eve difficulty in securing a job as well as building relationship with other people.

This is due to lack of trust in victims toward other people, However, perpetrators of bullying will also being affected in term of health as they are likely to smoke cigarettes influence by their peers that can develop into cancer. They will also have trouble in securing steady jobs because of their violent nature and feeling of oppression over others. Conclusion. In conclusion, bullying is an important issue that need close attention from both parents and schools. Bullying is caused by family and need to be solved at early stage in avoiding further problems in long period of time.

Parents most have a close bond to their children so that they will be able to know what’s happening to their children, what their problems are at school. Children at early age can easily be educated on the topic and can still change to better; while older ones have a hard time to receive advises from others and at worse remains the same until deathbed. V. Definition of Terms Bullying- the process of intimidating or mistreating somebody weaker or in a more vulnerable situation. Plagued- a sudden appearance or outbreak of meeting unpleasant.
