Chapter I Introduction The advancement of teaching is not only shown by the development and usage of multimedia such as the projector and other devices, as the standard of teaching is through writing on the board and discussing what you’ve written to the students because the chalk has proven to have some bad effects to the health especially to those with a weak respiratory system, it was replaced with another erasable and effective writing tool, the whiteboard marker but this efficiency is exchanged with a not so affordable price.
Marker is very important to every student or teacher regardless to which field they belong to, it is just important as pen or pencil. But to talk of their use it is not hidden that they are not only useful for education sector but it is much useful for people in commercial and arts sector. Our investigatory project is about using burnt wood or charcoal and used engine oil to create a mixture by a Seibel solvent an alternative for refilling the common writing item used in schools and offices: the whiteboard marker ink.
The marker ink as said fills a dry whiteboard marker in order for the marker to be used again. Usually, the ink contains chemicals that leaves a mark and can be erasable on a whiteboard but in this Investigatory Project, we used some of the materials that can be found at home to create some mixtures that can do the same as the commercialese ink. This project states that unused things like charcoal can make into alternative, chemical-free, items that can be used again.
Background of the Study Demands for whiteboard markers have risen ever since school replaced their blackboards to whiteboards and chalks to whiteboard markers which are easy to use and erase. Sometimes, students are required to bring their own whiteboard marker that is why the researchers chose this project in order to find an alternative way to produce whiteboard markers since commercialese whiteboard markers are expensive. The researchers also aim to help the students acquire a less expensive whiteboard marker ink that could make a difference in their expenses for their school supplies.
Most of the students don’t have a whiteboard marker because they say that it’s costly. As student researchers, we have researched about the materials that can be an alternative to produce a whiteboard marker ink. The researchers found out that the charcoal and used engine could be an alternative material for producing whiteboard marker ink. Charcoal being the pigment contains the chemical that make our study possible enough furthermore it is a light, black residue consisting of carbon and nay remaining ash.
Cooking oil is plant, animal, synthetic fat used in cooking. Whiteboard marker or dry-erase marker sees an erasable ink made to be used on a silk, non-porous writing surface, for temporary writing, whiteboards. Miscible solvent is the property of substances to mix in all proportions, forming a homogeneous solution. The term is most often applied to liquids, but applies also to solids and gases. Water, ethanol, wine, cooking oil are some examples of miscible solvent.
Objective of the study The researchers’ general objective is to determine the possibility of charcoal and used engine oil as the alternative raw material to manufacture white board marker Ink and to promote recycling by recreating materials and the searchers’ specific objective is to prove the difference between a commercialese one and the recycled one. Significance of the study The importance of this study is that through making this the researchers can promote recycling and reusing of wastes just like what we will be doing to the used engine oil and charcoal.
The researchers would also be able to promote the importance of finding alternatives to products such as the saving of money. Most of all with the success of this project, the researchers may be able to motivate other people to do the same that people may be able to see hat we can do with waste products and that they may be provided with knowledge that they can make something Out Of those trashes, and therefore be able to save our surroundings.
The importance of this study is to help the student and teachers in our society to acquire an affordable source of whiteboard marker ink needed in their school or office works. The importance of this project the researchers can illustrate another way of being resourceful. Scope and Limitation Our study will only deal with the benefits of making an alternative to a whiteboard marker ink and its effectiveness as compared to the commercial whiteboard marker ink. The making of the product should range only from two to three hours, and the budget allotment would only be PH 20. 0 since all the equipment and materials were reused. But the one that researchers are focusing one is the whiteboard marker, a marker that can be erased with just simple wiping, causing it to be the most favorable writing tool for teaching alongside with chalk, but, it also has it’s disadvantage such as its affordability as the whiteboard marker ink IS expensive. So in this study, we have come up with a simple, cheap alternative to the whiteboard marker ink.
The review of the literature for this study focuses on procedures seed for proving the feasibility of Charcoal and used Engine Oil as an alternative whiteboard marker ink and what similarities and differences between the two has. The review focuses on identifying the advantages and disadvantages, if any, of making an alternative whiteboard marker ink out of the said materials.
