A place that I have been fortunate enough to visit is Cancun, Mexico. My husband and I got to go for our honeymoon. We took a tour of Chichen Itza, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. We jumped in to a cenote. The best thing of all was just relaxing on the beach with my new husband. We were able to spend a whole week there and throughout that week created some never forgettable memories.
It was in the middle of May when we took our tour of Chichen Itza and it was hot and humid at the same time. The first spot on the tour is the Kukulkan Pyramid. It is the one thing I wanted to see the most while in Cancun. It is an amazing site to see. The hand structured pyramid made in 600 to 1200 AD. The steps are so steep with 91 of them on each side to represent the 365 days of the year. We got the opportunity to walk up these steps. As we begin I feel the hot blaze of the sun, the moisture of the jungle on my skin, and the amazing architecture under my feet. We get to about thirty steps and I need to take a break. I can feel the sun become closer and smell my sunscreen as my pores force beads of sweat out of my face. I turn to look at where I was once standing on the ground and get dizzy from the distance. I decide to turn back and get to the ground. I take a drink of my bottled water once grounded and it’s delightfully cold as it trickles down my throat and into my belly. It’s as though it has come off of a glacier. I have really worked myself up, climbing, and decide to poor some of the water over my head. I’m so hot it sends a shock to my brain, it’s wonderful. The local venders laugh at me, I assume because the high temperatures and humidity are no big thing to them. It sounds miserable, and it was, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.
On the way back to our hotel from Chichen Itza we get to stop at a cenote. A cenote is a deep natural pit, or sinkhole, resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath. There is a…
