An Extraordinary Person

An Extraordinary Person People walk in and out of your life every day. Some people move on through the heartache and pain, and others hold on to that one somebody who has made a lasting impression on their life. All of my life I was gratefully blessed to have a very special person to rely on. He was there for everything from birth. Everyone has certain people in their lives that mean a lot to them, but it really takes a grand person to be important to you. I have had many special people come into my life. The person I thought about the most when I was thinking about this essay is my grandfather.

I am blessed to have him in my life. He is a very humble man who everyone gets along with. He is one who looks to God for strength and courage. Therefore I look to him to get my courage and strength. My grandfather is unique in many different ways. The main thing I can think about him is the way he treated people. He has never met a stranger. From the moment he meets someone, he treats them as if they were all equal, which they are in God’s eyes. To him religion comes before everything; he always looks to God for strength and courage in everything he does.

The thing that is so special about his religious affiliation is that he has passed it on to my brother. He took Pierce to church when he was a small child and as he got older the choice became his to continue to go to church or not. Of course, he chose to continue going to church with my grandfather. If it were not for my grandpa, Pierce would not have the relationship he has with God today. I believe it takes a very special person to introduce you to God. It takes a huge amount of love to show you the way to the Lord. Everyone has a person that they can rely on.

It is usually the person you can go to and tell them about what is going on in your life at the time. I think it takes a particular person to sit and take the time to listen to whatever you want to talk about. I always find it funny when I go to tell my Grandfather something I did not want everyone else to know, but by the time the afternoon rolled around, everyone knew. It was humorous because he never tells the things I really did not want people knowing, but he always says things I am nervous to talk about out loud.

So, it takes a little pressure off of me, because I know if I go and tell him something it will be around to the person I need it to get to in no time. The reason my grandfather stands out as the most important person in my life is because he has suffered through three strokes since 2004 and he is still strong. When he had the first stroke, it completely shocked me. It was not because I thought he was too healthy to have a stroke, but he lost his will to live. My grandfather went through a state of depression.

It was extremely hard for me to watch because to me he was always the strongest person I knew. I could not believe he was so willing to throw his life away. He did not want to do anything to help himself. No physical therapy and no medicine. He absolutely refused to take his insulin and exercise as the doctor instructed. As a result, he lost control of his right side. My grandfather having his first stroke is the hardest thing I have ever had to witness in my whole life. After the third stroke, everyone in my family gave up hope.

They all thought for sure he was going to pass away. I could not believe that. I still remember the days when he used to race my brother and I to school. Every day he would pick us up from school and take us to a studio to train us in karate. He was there for every tournament. Because of all his activity when we were younger, I could not imagine him giving up on himself. My grandfather always wants more out of life. Now it has been four months since his last stroke. He is improving and is going to be released from the hospital soon.

Extraordinary people are hard to come by so when you have a very astonishing person comes into your life, make sure you hold on tight. I am very blessed to have had my grandfather all of my life. I will carry our memories, the things he teaches me, and keep the special place in my heart that he will occupy forever. The quote is perfect “Some people come into our lives, leave footprints in our hearts, and we are never the same. ” I will never be the same; I have been molded into the person I am today because of a. extraordinary person that is a part of my everyday life, my Grandfather.
